"I am a woman who thrives on challenges": Vera Querido in interview with Business Voice

Vera Querido, Founding Partner and Managing Partner of VPQ Advogados, gave an interview to Business Voice magazine in which she shares her views on female leadership, legal entrepreneurship, and the future of law.

The lawyer, who founded her own firm in a sector historically defined by rigid models, says the decision was driven by a desire to generate impact and contribute to her country's development. "I am a woman who thrives on challenges, and when I believe a new project can make a difference and have a positive impact on my country, I embrace those challenges," she says, also highlighting the humanist dimension she seeks to bring to her practice.

On the main obstacle facing women leaders, Vera Querido is direct: dismantling the assumption that leaders are men. In her view, authority is built on competence, resilience, ethics, and transparency, and has nothing to do with gender. She also believes that the more women occupy leadership positions, the more others will follow.

On her leadership style, she describes an approach grounded in team involvement and recognition of each person's individual contribution, combined with a relationship of trust with clients, built on technical rigour and active listening.

On the changes needed to accelerate genuine equity in leadership, the Managing Partner argues for a cultural shift that values merit regardless of gender, supported by targeted training for women and effective policies for work-life balance.

Looking at the future of the profession, Vera Querido highlights continuous adaptation, strategic thinking, technological literacy, and empathetic leadership as essential competencies for the next generation of lawyers. For young women who aspire to a career in law or to launch their own venture, her advice is clear: invest in knowledge, trust your own abilities, build a strong network, and always preserve your authenticity. "Lead without copying models, valuing your own leadership style, grounded in values, ethics, and respect for your teams and for people."
