Vera Querido participates in the 1st International Conference on Real Estate Law in Cabo Verde

Vera Querido, Founding Partner and Managing Partner of VPQ Advogados, took part in the 1st International Conference on Real Estate Law, held on 15 and 16 October in Praia, Cabo Verde, where she moderated three sessions focusing on key issues relating to legal certainty and the development of the real estate sector.

Held under the theme “Real Estate Law in Cabo Verde: Legal Certainty, Investment and Sustainable Development”, the event took place at the Conference Room of the Government Palace and brought together legal professionals, institutional representatives and experts from different fields for an in-depth discussion on the main challenges facing the real estate sector in Cabo Verde.

Vera Querido took part in Panel I — Legal Certainty of Property Rights and Modernisation of the Real Estate System, which focused on the role of legal certainty, the protection of property rights and investor confidence in the development of the real estate market.

As part of this panel, Vera Querido moderated the session “The Role of Real Estate Law in Economic Growth and Attracting Foreign Investment”, presented by Fátima Monteiro.

This was followed by a session on real estate contracting, addressing matters such as the purchase and sale of real estate, promissory sale and purchase agreements, contractual due diligence and buyer protections, with a presentation by Miguel Duarte.

Vera Querido also moderated the session “The Evolution of Expropriation for Public Purposes and the Current Legal Framework”, presented by Geraldo Almeida.

Vera Querido’s participation in the event provided an opportunity to closely follow discussions on some of the main challenges facing Real Estate Law in Cabo Verde, from transaction security and the protection of property rights to the modernisation of the legal framework and the conditions required to attract investment.

Over the course of two days, the Conference provided a forum for knowledge-sharing and discussion among professionals and institutions, also covering topics related to taxation, financing, tourism, sustainability and territorial development.
