Conference “Planned and sustainable islands: housing and land and urban planning in Cape Verde”

The conference “Planned and sustainable islands: housing and land and urban planning in Cape Verde” will take place from 3rd to 5th November at the Oasis Praiamar Hotel, in Praia, setting the tone for a reflection on the future of Cape Verdean cities, based on the importance of planning and sustainability.

The conference is organised by VPQ Advogados, the exclusive Cape Verdean member of the international network of law firms Morais Leitão Legal Circle, and Morais Leitão, with the participation of several distinguished speakers.
The panels include the following topics:

  • Land and urban planning in Cape Verde: challenges and opportunities
  • Regional planning and sustainability challenges
  • Urban management as land planning
  • The instruments for implementing urban planning policies
  • Land and urban planning and environmental protection: present and future
  • Land and urban planning and housing policies
  • Land and urban planning and tourism

This event also has the partnership of the National Association of Cape Verdean Municipalities and the Association of Municipalities of Santiago.

For Vera Querido, partner of the recently created law firm, "with the approval of the VII Government’s Programme, and the intention to introduce changes in the legal framework of housing, land use and urban planning, it is vital a public debate on the type of development we would like to see in Cape Verde. Legislation will play a fundamental role in defining and improving housing construction”.
